Visit your dentist every 6 months, or every 3 months if you have periodontal (gum) disease, for routine exam and “cleaning” visits. This is important because it helps prevent tooth decay and prevent or control gum disease through regular “cleanings” and fluoride applications.

Chewable disclosing tablets or drops help you evaluate how you are doing with your oral hygiene at home. After brushing and flossing, they allow you to visually see any areas you have missed. This means you have left plaque behind in these areas. Plaque harbors bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease, so it is helpful to know if you’ve left any behind so that you can re-brush and floss as needed. The disclosing agents can help you improve your oral hygiene and your oral health, which can have an impact on your overall health.
