What Will Happen at My Dental Check-up? The Spokane Dentist Blog

We thought it would be helpful to our patients to read ahead about what will happen at their regular dental visit. Here is a list of what happens at your 3 or 6 month dental check-up at Dental Clinique!*

1. You will check-in with our friendly front-desk staff and update any necessary forms. While you wait, you may enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea in our comfortable waiting area!

2. If you are due for an update, you will have a full-mouth series of x-rays and/or a panoramic x-ray. These are typically done every 3-5 years.

3. Once a year, you will have your 4 bite-wing x-rays done to check for tooth decay.

4. After all needed x-rays are taken, you will receive a clinical oral exam. This will include a head and neck screening for oral cancer. This exam happens every 6 months.

5. Once per year adults will receive a full periodontal, or gum, charting to check for and monitor any signs of gum disease.

6. Upon completion of the exam portion of your visit, you will receive your “tooth cleaning.” This is typically done by one of our hygienists. You are due for your cleaning every 6 months.

7. After your teeth are sparkly clean, you will receive a fluoride treatment to help protect your teeth from cavities. This also happens every 6 months.

8. If you have periodontal disease, you will receive your periodontal maintenance “cleanings” every 3 months.

9. At the end of your visit, our dentist will discuss a treatment plan with you to maintain or improve oral health. If your treatment plan is more involved, you will be asked to schedule an additional appointment for a thorough treatment plan presentation.

10. On your way out of the office, you will check out with the front desk to schedule any recommended treatment appointments. Don’t forget to also schedule any 3 or 6 month recare visits while you are there – we really care about your oral health!

* This process varies depending on what each patient needs. This list is designed to give an overview of expectations, but is not a guarantee for your visit.
